LAKE ELSINORE—Two interim principals were approved by LEUSD’s Board of Trustees at their regular meeting on November 14, 2019. The positions of Director, Fiscal Support Services and Interim Program Specialist were also approved by Trustees. LEUSD is proud to welcome its newest members of the team!

Interim Principal Appointments

The following appointees will serve the remainder of the school year at David A. Brown Middle School and Tuscany Hills Elementary School. Teachers and staff at each school received the news during recent meetings with Superintendent Kimberly.

• Mr. Jeremy Cassara—from Assistant Principal to Interim Principal, David A. Brown Middle School (DBMS). This appointment will be effective January 6, 2019, following the retirement of DBMS Principal, Karen Gaither.
  • Mr. Cassara has been the Assistant Principal at DBMS since July of 2019. From 2011 to 2019, he served as an Assistant Principal at Elsinore High School. Mr. Cassara was a Social Science Teacher and Categorical Facilitator during his tenure with the Moreno Valley Unified School District. Mr. Cassara holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science from CSU, San Marcos. He earned his M.A. in Educational Administration from CSU, San Bernardino.
    
    
• Mr. Corey Crow—from Program Specialist: Mental Health to Interim Principal, Tuscany Hills Elementary School (THE). Effective December 2, 2019, Mr. Crow will succeed Principal Jeff Marks, who was approved last summer to serve at Alberhill Elementary School, which opens in August of 2020.
  • Mr. Crow has been a Program Specialist with the district since 2014. Prior to moving into district administration, Mr. Crow served as an Alternative Program Special Education Teacher at David A. Brown Middle School, and a Mental Health Teacher on Special Assignment in Student Support Services. Mr. Crow holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Studies from CSU, Fullerton. He earned an M.A. in Education from Brandman University. Prior to coming to LEUSD in 2010, Mr. Crow taught for the Riverside County Office of Education.

Interim appointees Jeremy Cassara and Corey Crow will serve until both positions are openly advertised and permanently filled next spring.

District Office Appointments

• Mr. Harvey Olsingch—to Director, Fiscal Support Services, effective November 18, 2019. Mr. Olsingch most recently served as a Senior Accountant for the City of Vista, a position held since May, 2018. Mr. Olsingch has many years of accounting experience in the private sector with multiple companies, where he has served as an Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, Audit Senior and Audit Supervisor. Mr. Olsingch holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University‒Hawaii. The vote was unanimous with one Trustee absent. In open session, President Crippen disclosed that he had recused himself on this item because Mr. Olsingch is a family relation; therefore, he did not vote nor participate in discussions on this agenda item, and was marked absent.
  
  
• Mr. Felipe Flores—from Dean of Students, Lakeland Village School (LVS), to the position of Interim Program Specialist, Student Support Services. Mr. Flores most recently served as Dean at LVS beginning in July of 2015. Prior to moving into district administration, he served as a Behavior Intervention Specialist, a position held since 2012. Mr. Flores has an extensive background as a Behavioral Health Specialist, Day Treatment Therapist, and Resident Counselor. Mr. Flores holds both a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology, and an M.A. in Social Work, from CSU East Bay, Hayward. The effective date will be December 2, 2019.

Other Actions

• Superintendent’s Contract Addendum #4—The Board of Trustees approved a two-year extension of Superintendent Doug Kimberly’s existing contract to the end of the 2021-2022 school year. There are no changes to salary or compensation with this addendum. The vote was unanimous, with one Trustee member absent (Scott).
  
  
• The Board opened and closed the meeting with a moment of silent reflection following Thursday morning’s tragedy at Saugus High School in the City of Santa Clarita, which took the lives of two students and left four students critically wounded, including the 16 year-old shooter.
